none as over use of hoof oil can be bad for the hooves as it stops moisture getting in an causes cracking!

I'm sure if you only apply it at shows, it won't dry out the hooves to the point where they will crack

I don't use actual "polish" per say... we use Krylon or Ultra hoof polish enhancer on their feet and hoof black on some of the horses (mostly the saddle seat horses) if they have dark feet (then Krylon over the hoof black). I don't use clear polish because it has a yellow tinge to it and the whole point of cleaning up a horses feet is for it to NOT be yellow *lol* The Krylon/Ultra covers cear with a great shine (shine is good =P

I own some twinkle toes (from when it first came out), but I don't use it when I show... I think it would look pretty tacky if I went into and Open Hunter or Ladies Pleasure class, all professional looking in my tailored coat, etc. with sparkly feet *LOL* Just my opinion though... I think that some horses/riders can get away with it, but it's just not me =P I think it depends on the horse, the division, and the level at which they are showing...

The only thing I put on my horse's hooves (and my mom's horse's hooves) is Rain Maker 'cause my horse's front hooves came with a long crack down the center when we bought her from malnutrition, and if we don't paint the hooves with the stuff they get really hard for the farrier to file, too.
I've considered buying Twinkle Toes, but I'm low on $$$, and since now I've found out it dries out the hooves... Well, I don't really need that... *grin*
Too bad. It'd look pretty on Arwen's hooves...

It's not hoof black...

We bought this water-based stuff that is made for boots...it is black and it doesn't dry out hooves (since it won't dry out the leather on boots). It was in a handy container with a sponge at the end. It was so much easier to use than hoof black.

Of course, this year I haven't used any hoof black at all because it has been so muddy, the judges can't tell.
