What Happened?

So my mini mare, was getting this huge tummy, I could have sworn that I saw the foal move several times about a week ago, and was so excited, she would be due in july, and man oh man her tummy was HUGE, and then 2 days ago I noticed her tummy looked small, and then yesterday I took a good look at her, and I really dont see any tummy at all, she doesn't look pregnant at all now... what happened? why would that happen? could she have lost itand her tummy gotten that small that quickly?

She could have had a fake pregnancy.

A lot of mares seem to "lose" their belly near the end. The foal could have simply shifted into a different position. The term "slab sided" refers to this but usually happens about 2 weeks prior to foaling. However, my Arabian mare did it a full 2 months before foaling. On palpation, the foals head and front legs were fully "engaged" in the birth canal. Every horse is different. Some do it just hours before foaling.

Hopefully, thats the case. Good luck.

Oh I really hope so, I'd hate to know that she lost the baby, but you gave me some hope, I'll keep everyone posted, if I find out shes still pregnant!

Well, heres whats weird... She was getting really big like I said, then one day POOF nothing, then after about 3 days... being today, she kinda has a belly again, like she did before, it stays on either one side or the other, but weirdly it isn't as big as it originally was... also she was with the stallion July-August, so she would approx be due in Now-July at the latest, she was underfed, and not well taken care of so my best guess when I got her was she wouldn't have the baby, but I got her about a month ago and about as soon as i brought her home she really started getting large, I de-wormed her the vet came out and did shots, and she wasn't getting but a couple hands ful of sweet feed (which we'd changed feed now) but i was definitely told by the vet a couple weeks ago that she was pregnant. So here is a picture of her belly before I noticed it going away.

the first one is 2 weeks after I brought her home, then i dont have a good shot of her belly being on just one side, but here is about a week and a half ago the 2nd picture... & I'll try to get one of her in the last couple days... but I have to upload them first. I think I have one of her on the camera....

in this picture looks like the baby is sitting on the right side.

which in this picture the baby was on the left side, but it's a bad angle you can't see the belly too well... sorry (but in person it looked HUGE)

if i can't find a picture of what she looked like yesterday.... then take the first picture and imagine the small side of her tummy being that size on both sides...... so if the baby was still in there it had to be in a weird position and wasn't sittin on the left or the right....

which is why i was like... wheres the baby!?!??!

Can you get like a side shot? Those are the best... I just signed up for photobucket and it is the easiest way to put up pics! I have dial-up and the way I had to upload them before took forever and a day... now it's quick... so I have to start sharing more pics again.

Did you guys start her on pellets?
