What do you want to know about Appaloosas?

I am doing a class assignment, i have to make an informative website on a topic of my choice, i own an appy mare so i decided i would make the website about appaloosas. plus it is practice as i may take my mare up north in the fall for a breed showcase where i will have a chance to show non-horse folk or new horse folk all about appys.

So my question is what do you want to know about appys that you dont already know?
Any appy breeders here are also welcome to answer any questions that come up if they wish to do so

Well, I know quite a bit about Appys, because I had to do an assignment on them too (for 4-H)

Umm....to start out with, how about the foundation of the breed, horses that improved the breed greatly, or outstanding individuals of the breed...characteristics (conformation, color, personality, etc.), and the various disciplines at which they excel in.

Just throwing some questions at you trying to be non-horsey for ya.
How is their coloring determined?
Why do some have weird colored eyes?
What are they used for?
Good Luck with your project!

I heard something about Appy's that they are prone to blindness? I could be completely wrong, clarification with that could be helpful.

Both. Also think the blindness thing is really a good idea too that was asked. Are there any other things medically that affect appys opposed to other breeds?

I definitely want to know more about the color patterns and the genetics behind them.

this is something im looking into at the moment as i too am quite curious about it. I know that night blindness is common in homozygous appys, which from what i can tell are white blanketed appys.

im basing this off this site http://www.appaloosaproject.info/ind...age&PAGE_id=31

for other types of blindness as i said i am still looking into at the moment.

I would also try to get pics of the different looks of the Appy. Because someone may look at one Appy with non traditional blanket and not think it is an Appy! Visual is always good to help explain especially when it comes to color and pattern
