With her smuttiness.. (like that word) he he... I've wondered with how light she is if this makes her a dunskin. Myself is going with dun. Might have to splurge with the simulus check and makes some stimulating going on. LOL

Now there is the possibility that horses were misregistered as buckskins and really were duns or dunskins. But if they were "just" buckskins, I'll certainly say counter shading and great at that.

Our filly came back non-homozygous for dun and the other filly by Player came back inconclusive... figure that one out of a known dun and a known dun wiht Champagne. They asked for a retest.

Have you seen red duns registered as palomino that far back? It's possible and I have no idea if this could/would have happened or not... of course then they could have been dunalinos.

Interesting about your dun x dun/champagne foal. I wonder what threw them on that one. I wish they would release more information about the specific findings on these tests.

That's different (red dun/pal). "Back in the day" buckskins and duns got lumped together in QH and even paint. But then our red dun stallion that did throw a pal and was verified as pal from a sorrel is the only pal to date for him... so there has to be a good amount of his red duns carrying the cream gene there too. I almost thought this one could have been going grey with the face but think it's the lighting and my computer.

Beats me on the horse unless they tested the dam and not the foal. I'll have ot ask her in the AM if she found out anything further.

Well see that's what I'm thinking... unless those registered palomino way back there were actually dunalinos, then their descendants would be true buckskins, not duns (or dunskins for that matter). Every "dun" or "buckskin" in that pedigree traces back to palominos.

Seeing the Dun in her bottom line then going onto buckskins made me think that possibly she is one because of the argument I had with one guy that his Buckskin was a Dunskin. He had very classic dun markings, big FAT stripe and this Cowboy told me no he's a buckskin and then showed me what a Dun was. He showed me a bay dun and a red dun... lol. He said some buckskins look like that. Soooo, I can't trust a pedigree. This guy was showing in the world show!
