I will be showing our black yearling filly in Halter(and possibly Showmanship) classes this summer/fall. I just had a young lady come out yesterday to start working with me, on the what to do for everything.(And she will continue to come out every Wednesday and help me work with this filly)

I think that I might take the filly to a few open shows to get her used to new horses, new environmet, ect and maybe show at a few of them, but I definately want to show at least one FQHA(Foundation Quarter Horse Association) show.

Who the he** are you to say that? I've been riding for 19 years with 13 of those years in lessons. I hope by now I'm a decent enough rider/horsewoman.

I only show about once a year because the judges that make it to my area are incredibly rude as well as some of the competitors. It is not something I enjoy therefore it is not something I want to put myself through. By the way the last few times (3 or 4) that I did show I won or came in second. As spyro said (thank you by the way) not all great riders compete. In fact I have seen many mediocre riders at horse shows as well as at their home barns. I don't have much time but I do spend it as much with my horse as possible riding long distance in the summer to keep her in excellent shape and learning to drive carriages. In fact with almost 8,000 miles in the saddle in the 6 years that I've owned my horse I think I probably spend more time in the saddle/driving seat than many horse people. Showing has absolutely nothing to do with wether or not your are a good horseman.
I think that you need to learn how to talk a little nicer to people hunny. This is an internet forum so you need to realize that we can not hear tone of voice or see body language so our words are incredibly important. Learn to use them better.

Actually walk, you DID question her riding ability.

You could have just left it at WHY instead are you not a good rider....

UMmmmm asking if someone is a good rider usually does have to do with their riding ability.

Harli, so true across the board. I ride western speed events, but since everyone there is quite rude (I should say "snobbish") I don't show but in fun shows, even some of the people there can be rude. I enjoy trail riding, but the trail I love never got cleaned up after hurricane Andrew came through.
