If both your mare's parents were black, that would have helped - that would have meant you had 2 choices - chestnut or black. But since one parent was brown, that means your mare could have 1 copy of Agouti (in the brown form).

We also don't know for sure whether the sire is homozygous black or not. If he is, you won't get a chestnut. But if he is hetero for black, you can get chestnut. Either way you also have a chance of black and brown.

That site will not give you a good answer since there are too many unknowns. You would have to figure it all the ways there are... and I am not sure that At is an option on there... that is what brown is...

Checked the site... Brown is not an option. Given the parentage colors on the chestnut mare... there is no Agouti as in bay but the At as in brown... so we do know that the chestnut mare is ee Ata or ee aa. The sire is Ee aa or EE aa.

So your choices of offspring are chestnut, brown or black. OR just brown or black if the sire is EE. Likewise if the mare is aa instead of Ata the offspring can only be chestnut or black.

Sorrel/Chestnut X Black gives you...

Black
Bay
Sorrel/Chestnut

As the others have said...
If the black is also homozygous black, cross off sorrel/chestnut.
If the sorrel/chestnut is homozygous agouti, cross off black.

We know the mare isn't homozygous Agouti, since one parent was black (at least we assume black from the OP's words and not dark bay ).

Oops...my mistake.

Ignore this statement...
"If the sorrel/chestnut is homozygous agouti, cross off black."

Thanks for catching that JBandRio!

Your statement still holds true though if taken out of the context of this situation
