Unhappy What color is this colt? *died this weekend #12*

My friends mare foaled twins. The colt survived. Filly was found dead.

He has the mousy color to him. I would guess either black or smoky black. Could he be a brown(dark bay) like his mom? Dad is buckskin with homozygous black. I'll get a a picture with mom in later but here he is. They're not sure if the filly died from birth or the sack.

I think he's a black, whether he's a smoky black or not, I have no idea. Cute little stinker though. Looks to be premie. I would expect with them being twins.

This was taken with my phone so not the greatest. My camera seems not to do much better now a days anyway

From this picture here it looks like a smokey black, dark grey (as in the actual grey colour, not refering to white). I really like that colour, its very pretty. Hopefully it stays that way:P Very cute colt tho

I'd say black. The only real way to know if he's a smokey black is to test for the cream gene. I've seen horses that are black as night be smokey, then some actually give you the idea that they may be.

I'm guessing black too - what color are his eyes, and what color is the hair inside his ears? You might have to wait a few days to tell those things.

Try shaving a 2"x2" square on his bum. That trick has not failed me yet.

I received an IM from this friend, this little guy isn't doing so well. He's at the vets since this weekend. My friends and their babies this year. Haven't heard if he's still with us or not.
