What color of English Tack will look good on him?

I really really need to find a saddle for my new guy. But I was wondering what color of tack would look good on him. I've always gone by the rule of thumb that the tack should attempt to darker than the horse's color. So I was looking at havanna. But my trainer has two bays (although they're lighter than him), and they both look great in her reddish brown (is it called oakbark?) leather. I'm waiting to get my own bridle and girth and leathers until I can find a saddle.

So what color would you like on him? We're not really show-oriented, so I don't need to make a huge fashion statement, but we're hunter/jumpers.

Here he is in a havanna bridle and an oakbark saddle

This might give you a better idea of his color. He's a sunbleached dark bay (I got him after the sun damage had been done, but next year he should be darker). I think his true color is the color of his neck/face.

i like the combo that is on him in the first picture actually! if anything i would go darker on the saddle, def not lighter. Im not a big fan of light saddles on dark horses.
He's a cutie!

I would get a saddle the same color as his bridle. I personally like havana english tack and super super light oil for western tack... that's just me! My friend has a bay that looks exactly like yours and she has a GORGEOUS light oil western saddle & bridle, he looks absolutely stunning in it. I'm not a fan of light oil english equipment though.

He would look good either way, though!

Hehe, I'm using a jumble of tack right now. Bits and pieces of my trainer's and BO's stuff.

I'm definitely not going to go with really light oil, but I'm kind of warming up to the oakbark color. It's kind of reddish.

So something like this (I'm not considering this saddle, it's just an example of the color)

Also, here's a picture of him in a havanna saddle and havanna bridle. It just kind of seems to blend in.

Does someone have an oakbark bridle you can just try on him to see how the color looks?

^ That's a picture of my old horse in a dark oakbark bridle. He actually looked better in havana because he was such a light color bay, I think if you can find an oakbark bridle that takes oil well (such as the one in my picture, I had really conditioned it and oiled it well, so it deepened in color) it would look really nice on your guy

Yes, that's the color I'm kind of wanting!!

I just assumed that I'd want havanna stuff since that was my rule of thumb (dark horse = dark tack), but the havanna saddle just looks kind of blah on him. In those first few pictures, he's wearing an oakbark saddle

My girl is a dark, black bay. In photos she almost always looks black. Anyhow, my saddle/bridle is called "Oak Red" (Collegiate Alumni) and I love it on her. It isn't the orangish color that a lot of the tack is these days, but a slightly deeper red. I was originally a havana girl, but I love hwo this looks on her.

Yea, that's kind of what I'm thinking, I want the reddish brown. I think it stands out a bit more without being obnoxiously orange. The havanna just looks a bit blah on him.

Here's another picture (for the love of god, ignore our faces!!! ). But that's a havanna bridle, and I like the red color on the saddle, not the yellow. Do you think that would work on him? I think I like it a bit more than the havanna.
