Could be, haven't shown arabian in 7 years. My sis does tho so I can ask her. But I like clear on a grey anyway.

AtArabian shows you can NOT use black hoof polish in halter classes but you can in performance classes.
You can not use anything but clear highlighter period.

Here's a picture of her. Of the two shows I've done, I did clear once and none once. These are small schooling shows, mostly 4-H kids.

I prefer clear on any horse, black always looks really fake IMO

QHGirl it is just considered part of the presentation to some people and in some shows. Your dressing your horse up to look it's best and present as pretty a picture as possible...it is after all called "a show" so you want to show off you horse looking it's best.
As to if your horse's hooves having hoof polish on them will make you win or not...well, no, BUT...all things being equal between two horses then the one looking it's best will have the edge over one that doesn't.
In showmanship classes grooming and how well you turn out your horse does count.
When I show it does not take all that much extra time to clean, smooth and buff my horse's hoofs, and...as long as I am down there then I might as well apply a coat of hoof polish. Then while it dries I move on to grooming some other part of my horse. Then once the polish is dry I can quicky go back and spray on the highlighter that really makes my horse's feet look like patent leather!
With todays products it is easy and fast to do that little extra something to your horse's feet to make them look nice for the show ring!
