I wanted to say thank you to all those that have helped. From looking at the pictures of the Wild Type bay, I believe that is what he is. Now ,how do I draw/write those markings on his registration papers????? I am tempted to send pictures and let them decide what to write.
Thanks again. This is a great website!

Glad to have helped!

Who are you registering him through? My colt is through the APHA and they only recognize bay at this point. So, even though mine is wild-type bay, they have him registered as bay. I would imagine most registries only recognize the basic bay coloration.

if the parents were "regular" bays, I don't think the foal can be a wild bay. That was my first thought though when I started reading the OP.

Some bays have VERY black lower legs, some don't. The white in the foal's tail is pretty common, and will likely shed out as he starts getting his adult tail.

I think this guy is a regular bay, just like his parents.

I am going to register him with the American Morgan Horse Association. They have just updated forms to include Pintos, Roan, Dun, Silver Dapple. Then they have modifiers to the colors. Who knows what they will say?????

Horses are often just described as just bay, because so many people are unaware of the wild-type variation.

For instance, my colt is wild-type bay. I hae yet to meet anyone who thinks he is. They only describe him as bay. Most people have never even heard of wild-type bay.

Any pics of the sire and dam? We could try and see if either one of them are wild-type... although with limited info on wild-type... who's to say it can't skip generations? I can't find any info on it proving that it can or can't...

I posted a good shot of the Sire, but do not have a good shot of the Dam. I do not know how to put a picture in the response.
I uploaded them as Tiny's Sire - EF Hotwheels, and Tiny's Dam CSM Perfect In Blue.
The Dam has the white hairs in her legs, but only a very little. Her coloration was much like Tiny's when she was a foal. She had darker black on her. It definetly is coming from her lines.

In older horses, stress to the hair can make it go grey, as well as scars.

The picture of his leg looks alot like Charlie's... this is his:

Without the fuzziness:

He is a sabino and registered as a bay. They had had him down as a chestnut but that got changed. His dad is registered as a Grullo and his dam as a Palomino. He doesn't have any white hair anywhere on him except for his markings and the fuzziness in hs legs, but only has black in his mane and tail and hardley any on his legs, especially the back ones.
