What causes stripes??

My colt has stripes all over. Well, his back, sides and backend. I'm gonna have to try to get better pics. His mom is a bay with with a dun stripe, and some leg baring, dad is a cremello. I really hope when he sheds off he doesnt lose the stripes they are pretty neat looking.

How old is he? It could just be foal countershading. That is neat though!

It looks more like a texture difference than "brindling"

Unfortunately, they aren't permanent. The stripes are caused by the coat and skin being compressed and wrinkled within the womb. Usually the coat's wave will disappear by the time the foal is a month old, lastly disappearing from the head.

Weird! I don't have a clue what it is but it sure is unusual and really neat! Yes, like Seein'Spots said...whole body shot.

Dang I was hoping they would stay. When he was born he did look all crinkly. He will be a month old tomorrow so now I'll be watching them disappear. Thanks

Unless he's a curly! Some curlies look wavy like that.
