I have a courbette cresta for sale on ebay that is an awesome dressage saddle, and fits most horses The seat is too big for me (17.5) but it is not going to end at more than $700.

Otherwise the wintecs are good, but try them first- I looked at an isabell before I bought my courbette and it was WAY too restrictive for me in the seat- I liked the courbette because you have more freedom to move around in it.

So for deeper seats like that I would sit on one in a tack store first, some people love them and others despise them so it is all about personal preference.

One thing though - you said that you want one from one lesson...I'd take a couple more and make sure before you jump right in, but that's just my opinion.
That is a good point, but I'm going to have to get a saddle with a kinda dressagy feel to it anyways because of my horse's shoulders. And I was starting to lean towards dressage with Belle anyways, because I'm really not sure if jumping's her thing. And I found if she's happy (which she definitely was today) I'm happy too. ^_^ Plus this may eventually push me towards eventing... If I ever get over my fear of those cross country jumps.

I'm not sure what size would fit my horse though.

I would definitely recommend a Wintec. I LOVE mine! It's very comfortable and easy to care for.

Haha I am with you on that fear of cross country jumps!! I am determined to go beginner novice one day though... even if it kills me!

The courbette has a flex tree that automatically adjusts to the horse, from medium to wide tree That's why I bought it... so I wouldn't have to worry about it fitting my horse!

Oooo neat!!! That is definitely really cool. Would it be too big for a 15hh horse though?

Not unless he is a narrow tree- my friend rode her 14.2 pony in it haha.

Hmmm.... I'll be looking at some saddles tomorrow, so I'll find out my seat size. Maybe it'll be the right one. My mare's definitely not narrow.

I have a Jaguar by Harry Dabs and I just love it! It's so purdy and comfy. The leather is absolutely to die for, and it puts my leg in the perfect position. But, that's just me. Some people like the Anky saddles, but it didn't put my leg in a great position. So, it all depends on the rider too. I got it about a year or two ago for Christmas for close to $3k.

I second this (the part about it depending on the rider). Roxy came with a Harry Dabbs saddle and I HATED it! It put me in the worst position ever and it did not fit her at ALL! We sold it and I got a Collegiate Dressage Saddle that I loved and she actually opened up for once

Thanks, taydajumper93!

I do think Collegiate saddles, although not super fancy, are great "general" dressage saddles. I tried one and liked it! Put my leg in a pretty nice position and wasn't outrageously expensive. It just didn't put MY leg in the BEST position like the Jaguar did.
