They are just very thin, light saddle pads. Essentially just to keep the dirt/sweat/grime off your saddle or other pad or if you are wanting as little bulk as possible.

I believe they are thin square pads used under another pad (like a sheepskin half pad) or just under a really well fitting saddle. They are smaller and thinner than a normal quilted square pad

^ what she said. In recent years, as saddle pads have gotten nicer, higher tech, and more expensive, more people have started using baby pads as a buffer between the horse's body/sweat/dirt and their expensive pad. They double pad with a cheap, easy to wash layer underneath their expensive and difficult to clean pad to extend the life and look of the nice pad. They are also a cheap way to have lots of fun patterns and colors.

I used to use baby pads - but I got rid of them all. I found out after having my saddle fitter out to assess my horses back and my saddle - that they move around while we work, causing folds and then causing pinching and other issues that cause more headaches than good. I used to use them under my regular pads. They are much easier to wash than your average pad - that's for sure. But I would rather go through the process of washing my regular pads over allowing a thinner pad to bunch up and cause problems. |

Seriously I have two and I hate them!!! They aren't contoured AT ALL - and I can't get them to lie anywhere CLOSE to flat... they wrinkle, UGH! I want to set them all on fire. ROTFL

They have started making contored baby pads, which solve the wrinkling and bunching problems. They don't have as many cute styles yet though.
