| Senior Member+ | Western Saddle Fit + Suggest Pads?
I recently got a new saddle and it's soooo nice but I think its a bit too wide on my mare. I did hop on her for a little short ride but just walking and a little bit of trotting since I didn't have much time. I think it actually stayed in place for a change. Does this saddle stand a chance at fitting her with another type of pad? Would a nice wool build up pad work? Or something that's at least 1" thick? If you have a suggestion let me know! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've heard good things about the Skito pads. I prefer wool pads, but I haven't tried the Skito pads. The Skito pads have shims to fill in pockets. Luvs2ride79 is knowledgeable about the Skitos. I don't think the fit on your saddle looks too bad. The angle of the bars may be a little too flat; it's hard to tell from your photos. A pad probably won't help if that's the case. Have you ridden in this saddle yet? If there is a good sweat pattern and she's not sore, then it's probably alright. Nice looking saddle!

Yes, I have ridden in it but just for like 10 minutes. She didn't get a sweat pattern because I didn't work her hard. What kind of photo would help determine if the angle of the bars is okay?

It looks fine with the cut back pad. If you want more clearance get a "built up" cut back pad.

I also LOVE Tacky Too pads for not slipping!

From what I can tell the fit with the pad looks pretty good to me. I suggest a good quality wool pad as well
