Could it be possible that maybe you're lacking the eye for it (not trying to be rude, but developing an eye for a pleasure horse is not something that comes easy - hence why so many people have misconceptions of pleasure).

Maybe because you see them with their head low you have the illusion that they are on their forehand. Infact a good pleasure horse lifts from his shoulders and drives with his hind end.

Sure the movement may not be as noticeable as something like a dressage horse.

And I'm postive all of Georgia's WP horses are on the forehand.

What type of shows are you going to?

Most WP horses are dragging themselves on their forehand
Coming from a person who rides WP, classical dressage, barrel racing, and is obsessed with the horse's movement, I would actually have to agree with this statement, because it's absolutely true.

That said, the WP horses who WIN the championships are NOT guilty of this fault in this day and age. The Vital Signs/Zippos Mr Goodbar bunch are testament to this, as is Ona Good Impulse.

I would also like to point out that Dressage and WP are both commonly guilty of the incorrect use of tiedowns and sidereins. Massive Misuse, in the form of both being too tight.

Pot calling the kettle black, no matter which way you slice it.

Let's simplify things by saying this:

There are Good Riders with Light-Mouthed Horses and Soft Hands. And there are Bad Riders with Heavy-Mouthed Horses and Heavy Hands. In. All. Disciplines. Every. Single. Discipline. On. The. Planet.

Moot conversation.

Can I point out that even if a WP horse is driving well from the hind end most people (Dressage in comparison) think it is not because it doesn't get its feet very far off the ground.

Can I just point out that you flame others for being rude, when you yourself are being rude. That's not neccessary. Really. Grow up & stop name calling.

So what if she's biased? It's HER OPINION. And you have no right to call her names bc of it.

I would be surprised if that particular poster contributed any further to this thread anyway, now that her mother's been alerted.

You have an extremely good point.

Since you brought it up some qymkana riders also use tiedowns incorrectly. The tiedown was origionally made for the roping horse so he could balence himself. Now I see some gymkana riders use it as a means of staying on. Otherwise their hot horses would flip right over backwards. I'm not saying this prevents them from flipping but it keeps their head from becoming to high.

I have seen plenty of horses flip over WITH a tie down on.

It doesn't prevent a hot horse from flipping over.

Oh give me a break. How many WP QHs do you know?? There are plenty out there still packing around and sound!! Look at Vital Signs is Hot, she is 9 I believe, she is sound and still winning championships! She now has a new owner, a youth and will go on into her teens continuing to win I am sure.

You can't say you like it natural, because most WP QHs natural headset is slightly low. I am have to remind my gelding to keep his head up at the walk and jog because he just likes to hang it there. We never force it down to be low, its just they way it is.
