| Senior Member+ | West Nile Vaccine Causes Infertility Soooo I went to pick up my Mammoth Jack today. We were asking the guy when the last time he was wormed, shots etc... I asked him what shots he did give. He said that he does NOT give the West Nile vaccine because he and other breeders around his area think it causes infertility in stallions and mares. Say What???? Have you heard of this before? This guy has been a breeder for 30 years. He was very believable. But I thought I would ask the experts |

| Senior Member | I work at a vet clinic and we get asked this every year by somone. The vets say that there is no link. Like JBanRio said, they never have an answer for why there was problems that one year.

| Senior Member+ | Yep, this is an unsubstantiated rumor. Texas A&M did a study that showed no increased risk of stillbirth or abortion in mares vaccinated with Fort Dodge's Innovator WNV vaccine. There have been no studies that showed fertility risks with the WNV vaccine.

| Senior Member+ | I've been giving the WNV vaccine since it came out, and I still know plenty of people and meet plenty of people who won't give it/don't administer it to their mares/mares in foal. I just had a woman tell me the other day that she doesn't give it because two of her mares aborted after receiving the vaccine. If there has been research done on it, that's probably what we should go by. There could be multiple reasons as to why the mares aborted...and if it hasn't been proven through testing and research, then we probably should just continue our lives until the professionals let us know that something is up.
