| Senior Member+ | honestly I would just use the RB and beet pulp to start with ... my big scoop thing 3qt is right about a pound chances are you won't be able to get him to eat that much beet pulp .. if you put him on that for a month and he still does not gain then add in the forage replacer

There is a link between high sugar diets (ie all your sweet feed) and the horse not wanting to eat enough forage. The human falls into a trap of feeding MORE feed so the horse eats LESS forage and so it goes on. Are you SURE about the amount of hay? 20-30lb is a pretty large range, and honestly, if a horse the size of yours is eating 30lb of hay, he should have more weight on than that unless it's just really poor quality hay. Working 1-2 hours every other day, unless it's just strenuous go-go-go (which I would not recommend on an every-other-day basis anyway), is not that much work in the grand scheme of things.

This looks like a chopped hay product. Probably not what's being referred to in the earlier post. | |

| Senior Member+ | I doubt I can add much haha, but have you looked into the possibility of ulcers, they make it hard to maintain weight, and also can make the coat look shabby, and just cause poor condition overall...
