I figured it wasn't just Harlee when even the most Eeyore of horses were getting excited. Hopefully she'll be calmed down by the next show.

2 of my 3 horses have been real asshats this weekend due to the very cold weather we are having...

Isn't it grand?

She seems to not like signs, even if she's seen it 50 times before. Or people. Yes, people. Usually she gravitates towards people. Last nite, she spun & pranced away.......nutcase I tell you

Oh my god. All my lesson horses spazz when it rains or when it is cooler than normal. Like spooking and being crankier than usual. It's normal.

I'll be devils advocate. Even tho horses are spookier in windy weather, once winter comes I don't give much toss, cause it's going to be wndy, it's going to be rainy, and they have to work (and me)

So does pretty much everyone have stories of when their horses didn't like the weather, wind, or full moon?

I think so, yes shepherd406.

My mares worst times are when a front is coming through, not necessarily the rain and wind. Today she was fine with the noreaster, but the other day with the cold front... She wouldn't even let me touch her that day and had SPOOK written all over her face. I decided a couple of carrots was enough and I bid her a farewell.

All of the above......

On a full moon, or a day or so before or after, my big OTTB gelding cops SUCH an attitude.....and needs to be put back in his place. Not EVERY full moon.....but dang close to it.

He was practically right off the track when I got him, so windy times were a dangerous time to be around him. He would just about check out mentally. It actually took about 1.5 - 2 years of being outside 24/7, and my insisting on ground work with him & demanding his attention during windy days, for him to realize the wind meant nothing more than a breeze in his mane. Now it's so wonderful for he doesn't even seem to notice anymore. Loud noises used to bother all 4 of them before, but with a metal roof on the barn, and occasional POURING rain, the noise is deafening in the stalls.....and after a few tense starts, they ignore it now.

Cool weather.....well.....after 115+ degree heat for 4 months, ANY temp below 70 is cool to them. They are much friskier. My mother used to feed them in the morning for they are at her house, but just about this time last year, something snapped in all of them.....especially my mare, who is the sweetest, quietest critter you can imagine. She would run around rearing & bronc bucking in front of the stall gates, not caring if you were only a couple feet away. It got way too dangerous for my elderly mother to do it, so now I run up there twice a day to feed. The very first morning I went up, I put this nonsense to bed boy. She started this and I got right after her & chased her up the other end of the arena away from the stalls, and then let the others in to eat.....and adamantly kept her at bay for a good 10-15 minutes. She caught on immediately, and since that day, no more rodeo show from her. The others have tried antics once....ONCE!! An appropriate response from me ends it right there.

Cool, windy, rainy, full moon, rotation of the earth, sun, night......you guess it.....something interesting is always happening here

I went out to ride on Friday and I didn't notice much of a change except he wasn't using himself very well. But my trainer told me that he was full of himself the day before, so I guess the weather has him feeling fresh! He's such a silly boy.

Last year we thought the cold weather effecting him and causing him to be tight and not as fluid. After last week and a slight change in how he was using himself and moving, we hope it won't be repeated again.
