Wearing helmets?

Hello, yet again (lol). I just was curious how many of you wear helmets while riding (not in shows)? Please say what discipline too you are referring to when you do/don't wear a helmet. I am just curious, because my mother insists I must ride a helmet if I'm ever on a horse. Most the time I agree, since my horse is still young and does stupid things sometimes, but it was sooo hot the other day, and I went on a trail ride with some other people and their horses. We were only ever walking (very rocky and lots of trees), and I was the only one wearing a helmet, even with a 8 yr old riding with us!

Thanks everyone!

I don't on average. But I"m also over the age of 21.

I have started wearing helmets to ride english since I don't tend to stay on very long lately.

Helmets are great to protect the top of your head. If you fall off, you will always wish you were wearing them. Honestly, that is about it. They will NOT prevent injury, but CAN help with the severity of the injury. Better to be safe than sorry.

Yes, I know, and in arena and stuff, I am usually pretty willing to wear a helmet. THough I do get funny glances when I ride western with a helmet, and on trail rides! Plus, it's just too hot for helmets some days, but mom says "no helmet, no horse." errrrr

i ride english and always wear a helmet. esp when jumping.

if its really hot when you're riding make sure you still wear a helmet and even consider wearing those things that you have to soak in water for like an hour and the crystal stuff inside the clothe gets cold and puffs up and u can wrap it around your neck. you can find them at walmart. (sorry forgot the item name)
anyone know the name of them??

LOL, Spyro, but even when I'm just walking mom? lol. Honestly, my horse hardly ever spooks at anything on the trails anyway, and even when he does, he NEVER bolts, just does an easily sittable "hop." So what's the big deal??

I certainly don't mind riding english and especially jumping with a helmet, not at all. It's more western and trail riding that I'm frusterated with.

I used to never wear a helmet. No body did way back when. Then it started becoming more common. I had a paint stud that had bucked me off a time or two, so I started wearing a helmet when I rode him. One day he bucked me off and I landed on my head. The fall crushed the part of the helmet I fell on and I had whiplash and a concussion. After that, I ALWAYS wore a helmet and still do. Trail or not. It won't save you if you break your neck, but will help prevent getting your skull crushed.

Yes, I suppose.... but I honestly look down right silly, when a little 8 yr old is riding along, with no helmet or care in the world.

*Mom Speaking* "Because even the most docile horse can and will spook. Horses are still animals and have fight or flight instinct, mainly flight!! Accidents happen, I love you and want to protect you in any way I can!"
Do you wear your seatbelt? Its like the old argument, Well, I am a safe driver, so I dont need my seatbelt.
