Hey everyone...I was wondering what you thought about wearing a ponytail, me that is for local western shows? I have long hair and it's hard putting it into a bun?? Just curious what you thought ..thanks

As long as it doesn't bounce when you ride and give the illusion that your horse is rough... I say go for it. You can always get those clips with nets in the bottom to hold your hair in tight OR you can use hairnets low in your hair instead.

Some ideas:

I would use for western too.

I suggest putting your hair into a hairnet, like QHGirl said. You can also put your hair in a ponytail and then flip it over so it's on top of your head, then you can clip it into place or use a hairnet and put on your helmet over it.

If that makes sense

Hi..I was thinking the same thing, I actually have those hair nets (the black type from the website you sent QHGirl) and it broke..I guess maybe too much hair. I tried putting it under my cowboy hat and the hat won't sit properly because of the hair...

What you can do... my niece's did the same thing is put your hair in a pony tail, THEN take the top half above the ponytail and clip into that. The Ponytail should hold the clip in... then it won't be to heavy on your clip to hold it shut.

Or you can just use a plain hairnet (that covers your entire head), and make just put your hair in a bun, and twist the hairnet around that. It works because there is alot more net to work with. That is what my friends at the AQHA shows do. I really don't like to see people's hair down in just a ponytail.

I don't have a "regular" hair net to try so I'll just throw this comment out anyways but can't you see the hair net under the hat? At the sides I mean?

yes but if you get the color that matches your hair, the actual 'hair net" it looks more polished than fly aways...

you can buy them at cvs, walgreens, walmart, target, kmart... grocery stores... etc.

Please do NOT wear those nets, or the barretts wtih the nets attached,, they are VERY out of style! blech!

for regular local open shows, you'll be fine with just a pony tail, with all fly aways tucked under your hat and contained with bobby pins. even for breed shows, a simple clean pony tail is fine for Western Pleasure. however, for a much more professional look, you will want to put your hair in a bun or all up in your hat for Horsemanship, showmanship and HUS events.
