| Senior Member+ | We lost a mini colt :( Non graphic pics Some friends of ours are out of town this weekend so we were taking care of their horses' I told my husband that it looked like their mini mare was starting to bag up. She was a maiden mare and they pasture bred her so they only had a rough idea of when she was actually bred. Anyways my husband took the horse trailer back to their place around 1:30ish and he called and said the mare was foaling get down there quick. So I drove the 1/2 mile down a gravel road in under 30 seconds. Got out and we had 2 little feet poking out nose wasn't showing and the foal wasn't progressing so I started to pull the baby but he was stuck so I had my husband do it. finally got him half way out and I broke the sack cleaned his nose and started rubbing him. But he wouldn't move so we got him out the rest of the way and I cleaned his nose more and gave him a couple quick puffs of air. His lungs inflated but nothing so I had my husband call the vet and kept up the breathing I was feeling for a heart beat and didn't feel one so I did side chest compressions on him and got a heart beat it was fast and big you could see it through his chestnut/sorrel hide. So I kept breathing for him. Got ahold of the vet he told us to Swing him to clear his lungs, I had already held him upside down and massaged his sides. So we swung him and more stuff came out. Then I did the whole breathing thing again. Vet told me to wrap my hand around the umblical cord to see if it was the mares heart beat or his. It was all his. So I had my husband cut his cord long just incase. and we still had a heart beat. So the vet told me to put my little finger in his rectum and pinch him to see if he would respond. And we got nothing from him Oh man this has been one long hard weekend. Thursday I deliverd 6 healthy pug puppies, Saturday my new stallion came down with a respitory infection and then this today. I think I need a break!
