As I know often times the dwarfs have health issues and I know it's a potential risk when breeding the minis to have a dwarf crop up????

YOu did all you could for the little guy, so there was nothing mroe that could hav been done, but it still doesn't make a person feel much better I know ...

You had a litter of SIX PUGS???? all born NATURAL??? WOWSER that's kind of impressive, lolol.... Well OK the B*ITCH had the puppies ROTFLMAO NOT YOU Personally
Actually he was very well put together. His mommy had a shorter neck and cute little dish face, which when they are first born looks kinda weird but they grow into it. He had nice long legs and if he would have stood he would have been about 17-18 inches. Dwarfs tend to have short stubby legs and there head isn't in proportion with the rest of there body. My husband had a dwarf foaled out one year and you could tell right away that it just didn't look right.

I went back and looked at the pics again. His head does look big in the photo but it's the angle of the camera and the way my husband laid him out, then he zoomed in on him. really his head was small and cute! That is just a bad pic.

The six pug puppies were all born natural and only needed help getting out of the sack and getting there noses cleaned which is not uncommon for pugs at all. We did have 1 little girl that was a bit gaspy but with some rubbing and cleaning of her nose and mouth she did just fine.

So get this the owner of the mare called and my husband told her I was crying over this foal. And she told him if I was going to breed horses I would have to toughen up because they die. Well guess what had I been the owner of that mare I would have never left in the first place. She was a maiden and a mini to boot. If she wasn't my boss and I didn't have to go to work and face her tomorrow I wouldn't talk to her again. Just because it dies doesn't mean you can't show emotion for the poor thing. I know this much had she been there she would not have done one thing to help this baby.

Ahhhh see photos can be very deceiving!

While I understand what your boss was saying, in the fact that you can't let every death devestate you, she sure could have been alot nicer about how she put it AND When Dancer was 2 wks from her due date I stopped going out of town until after her foal was born... I missed THREE sets of dogs shows and one big horse show but you know what??? I did NOT end up missing out on the birth of Elle and I was glad I was there since Elle was a bit Big in the shoulders and Dancer was a maiden mare and I did assist getting Elle out past the shoulders! What if no one had been there??? Maybe things woudl habe been OK and MAYBE NOT... My mare and her foal were WAY to valuable to me, financially AND emotionally, for me to take any risks!
I was suspposed to show a QH mare I was leasing at the time in a QH show and the person who was her owner/trainer was kind of PO'd at me EVEN THOUGH I offered to still pay all entry fees, stall fees etc for the mare!!! SHe kept telling me that I should just GO to the shows anyway because my mare was probably not going to have her foal... WELL Dancer did NOT foal on that weekend but did foal a few days later, so if I'd have goen to a horse show and she'd foaled while I was 2 hours away and anything had happened I'd NEVER have forgiven myself....

I am the same way with the dogs I refuse to be gone from home for more then an hour or two once the dogs get to day 58 from then until after puppies are two weeks old I'm pretty much a home body only!

That's pretty impressive all the Pugs were a la natural and all live! Doesn't happen all the time with Pugs!

I'm so sorry....

What you boss said was completely out of line, sorry but doesn't matter how many you lose it's still a big loss, and on our farm it's not a "get over it" thing, and my parents have been breeding for 40+ years. You should never get used to losing something...

She was a maiden mare and they pasture bred her so they only had a rough idea of when she was actually bred. Anyways my husband took the horse trailer back to their place around 1:30ish and he called and said the mare was foaling get down there quick. So I drove the 1/2 mile down a gravel road in under 30 seconds. Got out and we had 2 little feet poking out nose wasn't showing and the foal wasn't progressing so I started to pull the baby but he was stuck so I had my husband do it. finally got him half way out and I broke the sack cleaned his nose and started rubbing him. But he wouldn't move so we got him out the rest of the way and I cleaned his nose more and gave him a couple quick puffs of air. His lungs inflated but nothing so I had my husband call the vet and kept up the breathing I was feeling for a heart beat and didn't feel one so I did side chest compressions on him and got a heart beat it was fast and big you could see it through his chestnut/sorrel hide. So I kept breathing for him. Got ahold of the vet he told us to Swing him to clear his lungs, I had already held him upside down and massaged his sides. So we swung him and more stuff came out. Then I did the whole breathing thing again. Vet told me to wrap my hand around the umblical cord to see if it was the mares heart beat or his. It was all his. So I had my husband cut his cord long just incase. and we still had a heart beat. So the vet told me to put my little finger in his rectum and pinch him to see if he would respond. And we got nothing from him . But I would not give up, for 45 minutes I worked on him even knowing that I couldn't save him. His eyes were glazed but we still had a heart beat. Finally my husband took him away from me and I had to let him go. I can't believe it, the vet said I did everything and yet it wasn't enough.

Oh man this has been one long hard weekend. Thursday I deliverd 6 healthy pug puppies, Saturday my new stallion came down with a respitory infection and then this today. I think I need a break!

I feel your heart ache.

I agree every death can't devestate you, but she knew my grandmother died just 2 weeks ago and I am still pretty sensitive. Had I walked into the field and he was already gone it wouldn't have bothered me so much, but I spent so much time trying to save him thats when it got to me, the moment I realized he wasn't coming back.

With our dogs the last 2 weeks of their pregnancy we never leave them alone. Especially the pugs...we have only lost 3 puppies in 15 yrs of raising pugs and those 3 were because the female whelped early and we weren't home...Lesson learned!

Anyways seen my boss this morning and she decided that she needed to take the day off with a headache she was already gone on Friday too. UGH, so I need to get back to work and do her job, my job and the sales job this afternoon!

I am so sorry for your loss.. He looks to me that he may have been showing some minimal dwarf characteristics from the pictures. Ecspecially the placement of his nostrils. Maybe it was for the best.
