Warface, Arabian mare with a very interesting face marking

I am pretty sure it is something similar to a bloody shoulder marking, but I thought it was very neat and I have never seen another horse that had a 'reverse blaze' like this that was so pronounced and clear.

She is a 1996 mare by the way.

That is SO unusual, and so cool! I too am sure it must be a "bloody shoulder" thing, but have never seen it presented this way. Very unique - bet she never gets stolen

    Somatic mutation?

It doesn't look like the bloody shoulder markings I'm familiar with, The ones I've seen have looked like flea-bitten spots crowded together to make a larger spot, but I'm certainly not familiar with every bloody shoulder marking so maybe there are some like this.

Woah, that's different! That's a cool marking, definately no mistaking that mare for another. No clue what caused it though.

That's really neat. It'll be interesting to hear what ACC and RiddleMeThis and the other color experts have to say about this.

How peculiar... I have to say that isn't a bloody shoulder-type marking. Perhaps a mutation in the genetic material when the mare was just a wee blob inside her mom? Considering that there is only one gene to "screw-up" for a grey horse not to be grey, it's plausible that one set of mitosis that "founded" that area messed up and just kept multiplying for there, though unlikely.

My best guess would be a chimera. It would be interesting to test the parentage of the foal using the mare's grey hair and then a second time using her bay hair.
