Sounds like this guy didn't know what he was doing if he taught him bad habits. Hey, Kar works with horses like yours, just ship him to Utah!

Hope your able to find a solution that is best for you and him. Good luck

I'm in the northwest area....and the rescues I know of will not take a horse in as a pasture horse unless they are unsound for riding. If the horse is sound and it is adopted...chances are someone will think they can become superman and ride the horse. They do not want to be responsible for the death or injury of someone. I doubt that they will take him in.

I know of a great natural horsemanship trainer. He will not teach bad manners and he is the best trainer I have seen. He focuses on Richard Shrake, but he takes things from all trainers. I'm not sure if he would consider taking him in for his 30 training, but he would probably do an evaluation lesson. If you want his name and details PM me.

I'd say that if the horse loves to buck...then let it buck and win money. They will meet all his needs and then some and he will get what he loves to do. I actually considered giving one of my buckers to the rodeo, but I finally got her through her moments. It wouldn't hurt to call one and talk to them and see what they say. I'm sure they will be more than happy to talk about their care and treatment of their stock as they have nothing to hide.

I beg to differ. Don't count on them never giving up.

There are horses that will not come around to "their ideas"

Nor would I trust ANY horse with an attitude with Monty Roberts.

Isn't THAT the truth. Also, PM PeggySue- I forget which "big name" person it was, but they will outright refuse incorragable(sp?) horses.

Well, I contacted Purina last night to get a professional opinion on what we should do to his diet. He is now on a VERY strict schooling schedule. And we just moved him to a different barn. Let me say that he has been nothing but an angel lately. He has only bucked 2 times on the lunge line, and they were not even bad bucks! I'm hoping that the changes that we will be attempting will help. We're also having our vet come out to scope him to see if he has ulcers (because he is an OTTB and about 93% of them do) and if he is, we're putting him on GastroGuard immediatly. Right now, things are looking up for him and I'm very proud of him. I really hope that this works out though!

I did contact them and they will not take dangerous horses. Only ones that are safe. they can have training issues but when it comes to being outwardly nasty they want no part. I was told they have to much at stake to waste time with a horse they might not be able to train anyway.

and as far as monty roberts. check out his tape on buying a horse for the first time, He has a nice little comment in there for finding a trainer. he said even some females are starting to prove themselves as somewhat good trainers.

he is so egotistcal I would never trust him with a horse with an attitude.

This is odd to me.

2 days ago you wanted to give this horse away as it was an untrustworthy, bucks with the trainers, no one can ride it.

Now just 2 days later the problems seem be mostly gone but you only decided to change it's feed last night? I would think it would take much longer than that to make a difference in it's attitude. Surely the trainers you had it to would have checked if it was a feed issue to start with.

When did you move barns on it? Yesterday? Another thing I would have taken a while to have had a pacifying effect on it.

Is there an explanation for the amazing transformation?

I must say that I wrote this when I had so much pent up anger from him throwing yet another person off. Now, I (personally) have not been bucked with in quite some time. I am 16. If you are a mother of a 16 year old, and you see a horse throw people off this bad, how would you feel about putting your teen on him? My mother did NOT want me to get on him before he was "in a mood". My mom wanted me to consider sending him away because honestly, she did not want me to attempt to ride him again. I came here looking for possible adoption agencies that could take him in. When he threw my trainer off, it was the 2nd time in a week. Although I rode him in between and he was fine. Our trainer almost broke something when she fell, because of how hard and the way that she fell. I also had people standing on the fence watch, and drill into my head that he is a dangerous horse. After I saw what he did with my trainer, I too was convinced that he was dangerous. I am determined, and I do not like to give up. After the move, I let him run (in a much larger area), lunged him (where he bucked only 2 times), then went against my mother's wishes and rode him. And he was an angel. Maybe it was because he did not have time to get him energy out before my trainer rode him. Anyway, I can honestly say that once I saw my trainer bucked off for the second time, I was scared of him. But I sucked it up and delt with it because I have no desire to give him away. Sorry if it seems a bit "odd" but like I said, I wrote this in the heat of the moment, and not to mention hysterically crying that I actually had to consider this. Maybe this is a lesson to me to calm down before I write things like this.

Also, at this new barn, he is eating alfalfa hay. We've now researched it for a while, and alfalfa hay has a buffering affect on a horse's stomach. Now, he is an OTTB and I've read that many have ulcers, and ulcers can cause bucking (because they are uncomfortable). He was fed this hay, about 15 mins before I worked him, so this could be why he was an angel too. Another thing, was that both days, he was worked on an empty stomach, and during feeding time. He could have been upset that he was not being fed.

None of these ideas had the change to run through my head on this day because I had everyone saying "sell him sell him sell him". We are having him checked out for ulcers and trying everything else possible. I wanted to have an idea of retirement/adoption places so I'd have time to check them out because IF I actually did have to give him up. I hope you understand now...
