It would be very dangerous for the horse and for whom ever adopts him. If he is a loving horse on the ground then a person with good intentions might think they could make a difference and try to ride him. Then this will only lead to the horse, rider, or both getting hurt. The horse could also fall into the wrong hands and end up abused. A rescue will not adopt an animal like this. They are a liability to them, and they cannot afford the ramifications a horse like this could bring. One I would do what 3WishesDun said. Get him vetted thoroughly. He might have a pinched vertebrae that out of blue causes him great pain. There also might be something wrong with his mouth. So many possibilities. Two, if he gets a clean bill of health, he might just be suited for a rodeo lifestyle. The horses are looked after very well so there is no need to worry. Third, you could have him put down. But this is an extreme last resort. There are options out there, you just have to find them and decide which one is better. At this point you're going to have to do what's best for the horse, and put your own feelings on the backburner. I hope you are able to make the right decision for him, and everything works out.

You can be sued if he hurts someone. no rescue will take him. I know first hand as I am going thru this right now. be very careful, even if you give him away and someone decideds to ride they can sue you. you need to get a legal document made so when you do find a home you cover all your bases so they can not sue. besides, what about your conscience. I am unable to give my mare to anyone as I am tortured with the thought that someone who thinks they are horse guru will get up there and get killed. do not underestimate people. someone will ride him when he is taken to a new home. it's enevitable, people will always think they can retrain and the issue is you. just protect yourself, and do what is right for him.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Quote: I live on Long Island, where what you pay for the price of one horse, I could pay for 3 in another state or upstate New York. I am not financially in the situation to be able to keep two horses based on the location where I live. And there is no pasture on Long Island unless I travel an hour away from where I live. With the gas prices, this also becomes a problem. | |

Is he registered with the AJC? If so, you can look into putting him with the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF). They rehome what they can, provide long term homes with the best of care to those they can't, and have tons of experiance with unruly thoroughbreds, so you know your horse is in capable hands.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | We've had one had a go at him. Besides bad habits being taught, he improved slightly, until that man was bucked off of him. Now, he wont get back on him. We've trying a few more things before this is a definate. I just want to put it out there that none of my decisions are 100% yet. I am still trying to work with him and get him to a rideable, safe, level. He is still being worked with on a daily basis, and ridden lightly. |
