Video question ...

Well, this isn't really a forum question but it is techy, and I am trying to upload this video for the benefit of inquiring minds on HGS, so with that disclaimer ...

I have this video of the animal communicator doing her thing with my horse. I know lots of people are curious/unconvinced/deciding about ACs, so I offered to share it. Here's the kicker. It's 10 minutes and 40 seconds. The extra 40 seconds aren't even very important! So, youtube won't upload it because it is "over" 10 minutes.

At home, I have a Mac. I use iMovie for editing. iMovie is not reading the format the video is in (I got the video from my trainer, didn't use my own "normal" camera). So I can't use iMovie to just hack off the last 40 seconds.

What do I do?? Are there other video share websites I could upload to even though the video is 10 minutes, 40 seconds? Is there some way I can convert to a different format so that my iMovie will read it?

Thanks in advance ...

There are lots of file converters out there. Try and find one that imovie will open. The most easy one I can think is mp4, imovie should be able to open it and you should be able to find a converter for it. Just make sure to find a safe converter, there are lots of viruses etc out there.

I make music videos so I'm always converting files (usually to windows format) but there are a TON of converter programs out there.

There is a website called Zamzar that will convert them for you for free.

http://www.zamzar.com/

You can convert images, doc files, music files, video files and some misc files.

You upload - tell it what you want to convert to and then enter your email and it will send it to you after conversion.
Its not immediate - I believe it can take 24-48 hrs. (a lot of people on my LOST video forum use it)

If you run Windows on your Mac with Parallels I can totally recommend the following program:

I personally use this program a LOT and I LOVE it.

Replay Video Converter by Applian Technologies

http://applian.com/replay-converter/index.php

Converts audio and vid files. Rips, burns and copies DVD's. Works with YouTube, FLV files, iPod, iPhone.
Supports all major formats.
Meets DMCA requirements and its legal.
No spyware, adware or viruses.

You can buy for just under 30 bucks or download the demo and try it for free.
The free demo is fully functional.

I tried the demo and liked it so much I bought it.

There is nothing that is complicated about it and I've been using it for about . . . hmm I think ten months or more now.

Never had a problem with it, unless your original file is corrupted or it cannot read it.

Its converted everything I threw at it and I post on YouTube quite a bit.

I would imagine your file is in a windows format and that's why its not reading it. WMV format probably.

I'd offer to edit it for you but right now I have less than 200MB free space on my hard drive and I cannot render anything right now

Hubby keeps putting stuff on my puter that hogs my HD.
I'm buying myself a seperate computer LOL

But there are a couple of options for you.

If neither of the above suggestions work - - - then I would ask around and see if you can email someone the file who has a Windows video editing program - I use Sony Vegas and Windows Movie Maker.
Or you can upload to a sharing site if its too large to email.
I use zShare for uploads like that. It easy to use and free.
http://www.zshare.net/

Ask if they can edit it for you to cut out the 40 seconds.

If they cannot covert it for you also - send the edited portion to me and I will convert it to MP4 for you and send it back to you.

I can convert something, I just don't have the free space to render a video right now.

YouTube prefers MP4 now but I still have no trouble uploading in WMV LOL

Other video sharing sites - I copied this from my vid forum.
These are what they recommend. Most seem to have the 100MB limit.
I personally use Dailymotion, Putfile and zShare in addition to YouTube.

Dailymotion
  • 20 minute videos or less
  • No uptime limit
  • Requires Long Registration Process
  • Streaming only
*** 4/5: A copycat of Youtube with less members but it does allow you to view the video in a larger window and in good quality.
  • Putfile:
  • 100 MB
  • No uptime limit unless it gets taken off for violating rules (this does happen)
  • Good speed, but skips sometimes
  • Requires Registration

*** 4/5: Requires registration, but is very reliable and will host your video forever.
  • zShare:
  • 100 MB
  • No time limit but if not downloaded for 60 days it will be removed
  • Download and streaming
*** 3/5: Slowish downloads but good functionality with the download and streaming options. LAST RESORT HOSTING

  • Zenix Studios:
  • A new upload server with fast speeds. No limits as of yet.

  • Badongo:
  • Inactive videos deleted after 25 days unless you register.

  • Sendspace:
  • Keeps videos downloaded once every 7 day period.

  • MegaUpload:
  • Deleted after 21 days unless you register.

EDIT: Sorry for the long post I went and did some research really quick and Apple.com has a free video converter.
So if it works you can convert and edit yourself

Prism Video Converter - File size 1.3MB

Sorry its so long LOL but I wanted to give you some options.

No problem - I was new to videos too about three years ago. I've been on several forums but my vid forum has some super nice members that help with all kinds of questions, so it was a learning process.

Its been years and years since I worked with a MAC so I have no idea about the newer types LOL

But I can try to help with the other stuff.
If you run into some glitches just PM me and I will try to help.
