| Senior Member+ | Venison Steak Recipes?
I have two venison steaks that I was given. I love venison, but have never had to prepare it myself. Anybody have any ideas? I do NOT have access to a grill, so it has to be oven or stove. I like the "gamey" flavor, so I don't need elaborate recipes to disguise it. I've had venison backstrap that was seasoned just with salt, pepper, garlic and onion salt, dipped in flower, and sauted in butter and onions that was fantastic. Oh, and this may be a silly question, but does venison steak need to be cooked all the way through like pork or chicken? Or can it be a bit rare like beef? Thanks in advance!!

Oooooh, yes! Get a frying pan and put a little bit of oil in the bottom along with a table spoon of butter, get it really hot and then drop in your steaks, I like to season with garlic, onion, salt and pepper and sometimes I will use dryed hot pepper instead of black pepper (only if you like spicy stuff though) It doesn't take long at all to cook, just a few minutes on each side (if you like it well done, you will need to turn the heat down a little or the outside gets pretty crispy) Enjoy!

I usually put mine in a flour mixed with seasonings and cook it on the stove top with a little bit of butter.

Yep, I ended up cutting it into big bite sizes, seasoning it with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion salt, and a tiny bit of celery salt. Rolled the bites around in some flower. Cut up some onions, and cooked it all on the stove with some butter. It's...amazing I really need to learn how to hunt...or at least make more friends who hunt, lol.
