Vacuum Cleaners

My vacuum has bit the dust. Only paid like $40 for it when Service Merchandise was going out of business a number of years ago, and just to look at it (not necessarily fix) is almost going to be that much so am going to get a new one. There are so many out there and such a range of prices. I was wondering if anyone new if there was a brand or style that was supposed to be superior to the others. Thanks.

I tried looking at Consumer Reports. Can't get to it online since I'm not a subscriber. And the library doesn't carry it. How crazy is that? Made a special trip today to look it up.

Funny you bring this up... lol Last weekend my mom went and bought one **almost $600** its (the one WE got ) is specially made for pet hair (we have 3 labs and 2 cats) OMG does it work!!! We love it!! Even our cleaning lady left a note about it! SO yes, if you have the money - I am a witness, it woes work. ((Came in a pretty color too - purple!)) lol

Diane just bought a Dyson at Sears. It was the top of the line (the one with the ball) and it cost just over $400 on sale. It is guarenteed not to clog up. It has the ball so when you turn your wrist it changes directions and she loves that feature. Just go to a store that sells them and try one out. She says it's the best and easiest to use she has ever had and it sucks out dirt that none of the other have been able to get out.

I like the Sears Kenmore canister vacuum. They are reasonable and last a long time. However, my sister in-law just got a Dyson last fall and LOVES it! I agree the price is steep, but I used her DYson and it is awesome!!!!
