![]() | Hi, I am new to this forum, I live in Australia and have recently purchased a 2yro Stock Horse Filly. About a month ago I found out she was pregnant, and will be due sometime in november (it was an accidental pregnancy). My filly has been wormed, but she has never been vaccinated and I would like to vaccinate her for Tetnus and Strangles. When would be the best time to do this considering she will need a course of injections and she is roughly 3-4 months into her pregnancy. Thankyou in advance for your help ASH chick |

![]() | It may be a good idea to get ahold of a vet and ask. I dont know too much about pregnancys but it would be good to ask a vet if you dont know good luck |

![]() | Same here.. I have to vacinate against strangles before i get my mare breed(barn rule) and then give the same shots as Maxine at 5th, 7th, and 9th month. Keep up on the worming and keep an eye on the mare to ensure she is keeping good weight. if it looks like she is dropping you might want to feed some pregnant mare suppliment |

| Senior Member+ | I'd be concerned about vaccinating her for strangles because the IM (intramuscular) Injected form tends to creat severe recactions and problems in healthy horses. The IN (Intranasal) form is not as noted for reactions and problems, but best to ask the vet first. At this point in her preganancy you can give the EWT(Eastern and western Encephalitis) and Tetanus and Flu and Rhino although the rhino should also be given at the 5,7 and 9 month intervals as well. You can then booster the EWT-Flu about 60 days before she foals for optimum protection to be passed on to the foal. Here is one site that gives a schedule for broodmare vaccinations. Remember this one was set up for horses in the US so some of the vaccines do not apply to other countries. http://www.equusite.com/articles/bre...eVaccine.shtml and another http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/ceh/tip17-1b.html And one on foal vaccinations http://www.horsetalk.co.nz/breeding/aaep-foalvac.shtml
