That brand would not be my first choice. If you go to the ultimatedressage.com or COTH board and do some seaching you might find out why.

Ok i went on to ultimate dressage (sorry i can't figure out what COTH means!! ) and it sounded like most of what the people had to say about them were good... most of the problems I read about were the custom ordered saddles, and I would buy this saddle (which should fit my horse without adjustment) and if it would be adjusted it would not be by schleese.

Chronicle of the Horse. Fittings whether it is a new or used one seems to be an on going expensive proposition with those saddles from what I have read. Some have never been right. Consider yourself warned.

the other brand of dressage saddle I am thinking of buying is a niedersuss- symphonie to be exact. My friend has one that I really like, but I'm not sure if it's the best option. The one I found is 1k for a 1996... although probably negotiable.

Ok thanks! I will check that out too. The one I am looking at is the JES Elite- from what I have seen in the searches I did, that one fared best in people's eyes.

What have you heard about the JES elite? The jumping saddle is a Pouvoir.

(oops, i said that already).

I think these saddles aren't too hard to resell, right? I want to pay a price where if I needed to sell one or both I could recoup most losses.

Sometimes you find them on e-Bay for little $$$ ($900- 1,400 in like new condition) and sometimes even then no one buys them. The most recent completed listings search on e-Bay of fifteen Schleese saddles shows only three of the fifteen were sold.

What does that tell you?

Yea I like it but my horse does not seem to like it as much as my courbette - it fits him well and he moves ok under it but not as freely as bareback, and just as I have started riding him in the niedersuss he is throwing much stronger bucks than before- makes me think there is something about how it moves he doesn't like.

(the only other thing I changed is that I *stopped* using spurs on him... so I don't think it is anything else either).

aaaaaah this is hard!
