Well, a damaged area will have both increased blood supply and lymphatic supply, as it still requires all the nutrients and biological structures to reconstruct the area, and extra waste products to be removed. Even if you're merticulous with dressings and hygiene etc, the fact that the skin has been opened means that the area is exposed to more bugs so that has to be dealt with as well. The leg is probably a bit warm as well? I wouldn't worry too much unless it gets hot or swells more than usual.
