Update on Sis's Leg

We just had the vet out. She took a look at her leg, but couldn't pin point the problem. Sis didn't react when she was feeling her leg, so she doesn't think it's in pain. What she thinks is that the bump is more of a skin irritation and she found some scabs that may be the cause of it. Her theory is that she must have stuck her leg through something and there may be just a little swelling that is causing it to puff up. After examining her tendons/splint she said she couldn't feel anything out of the ordinary. She told me that I can ride her, but I need to slowly build her up, so we'll probably be working on going over bridges and such (at the walk). Since her leg swells when she is ridden hard enough (which isn't very hard at all) she told me to ice it everytime after I ride, regardless if it swells or not, and to put splint boots on while I ride her for a while. She doesn't think the fall in January is related to what is happening now. At this point she isn't ready to suggest x-rays or an ultrasound unless it continues for much longer or gets worse.

I'm glad to hear it's nothing serious... You can do her up in Witch Hazel with a standing bandage, really soak the leg, it will soothe and help draw out some of the swelling.

Thank you! How do you go about putting on a standing bandage. I know the vet recommended putting some betadine on the scabs to help those, but she never mentioned wrapping.

not the greatest pic, I copied it from the web... You need a quilt or a no bow wrap, and then a standing bandage with velcro. Dont wrap to tight, or to loose, you should be able to get a finger in when your done. Wrap from the inside toward the outside, so counter clockwise if that makes sense. The velcro at the end of the bandage should end up back at the top on the outside. In this pic she is just starting, she will go down the leg and back up to the top. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I'll see if I can pick up a quilt and a standing bandage this weekend. If I can't get one by Sunday, would a polo do ok?
