Update on Lady (the Mare that Foaled Early) -test results in*biopsy results added*

We got the test results back on Lady's placenta. There was no viral or bacterial infection, but the reason the placenta looked the way it did and the reason she foaled early was because her body was not able to get enough nutrients through to the baby to carry it past that point. They said there was edema and they are going to do a biopsy of her uterus to determine if there is scar tissue or any other problems that will affect her from carrying to term in the future.

Sounds like they are getting closer to finding out what went wrong...I'm hoping for the best possible results for your mare!

We got the results back from the biopsy on Lady's uterus and they are great. They said that for a mare her age and with as many foals as she has had they couldn't ask for it to look any better than it does. Whatever the "grade" is that they give it (dad couldn't remember) she got a perfect score.

So it appears that this whole premature foal tragedy was a fluke thing and there is no indication that it will be a repeat occurance in the future.

Well thats a relief that came back all clear plus I recall she was flushing clean prior to you bringing her home so it sounds like all is well for Lady

Thanks for the update!

That's good to hear, are you going to breed her for a foal next year?

If it was my choice the answer would be a big definite no. But I am pretty sure dad is planning to breed her back.
