*Update, it's done, I'm feeling sick**We decided his breeding fate! Stud/Geld

Well after going back and forth with his worthiness as a stud, my husband and have done the pro and con list, walk the property, tossed and turned, spent hours staring at his every move.

we have decided that he is a beautiful horse, a great mover, smart, had a beautiful baby, bred one mare like pro, and brings us great joy as a stud.

However, after having to play musical horses the other day, moving the mare and foal to the far back pasture and my anxiety of what could go wrong and the unpredictability of stallions in general peaked. I walked the floor another two days.

Everyone who has seen him lately has fell all over themselves about how nice he is. He is the horse I always wanted and my husband has been set on keeping him a stud.

I have a lot of anxiety about showing a stallion and brought it up to my husband today...it only cost around 200.00 to geld him. He said he didn't want to talk about it this month because money is tight. so I said "if I can scrape the money together can we about it then?" He said yes...

So on the way home he stopped to get the mail and we got a refund check for 250.00 from the mortgage company. LOL. God answered my prayers in less then ten minutes, so we talked about it and standing in the front of the window looking out at our beautiful 5 year old stud who was pacing the fence looking for the mare, we decided that he will be a more beautiful gelding. (After all God did give us the money) It's breaking my heart, gelding him seems like such a waste but I know we will all be much happier with him as a gelding.

**sigh** as soon as we get conformation that the farriers mare is covered we'll make his appointment and Rock Solid Ten will be a beautiful gelding. **sigh**It is so final and I'm still upset about it but what can I do? I can't afford to promote him or send him to a professional trainer, and I don't have the connections to let someone else promote him...

I don't know how we can keep him safe and get him trained, and still promote him... he'll have to be the one that got away unless someone has a better idea

I like him very much, I can see what about having a stallion around would motivate you to geld though. Is there any possibility of collecting him and storing semen? In my mind that would be the best of both worlds, just in case.....

GREAT idea Lark.......

And those promo barns that just breed the heck out of stallions aren't good ideas neither....although their cheap!!Because they take like 5% out of his breeding fee.....

Oh I wouldn't want to have him breed anything that had the cash. I would breed him free to the right mares in trade for training before I would let him breed any one with the right cash. I rather cover 5 fabulous mares for free the 50 average mares for 250. ea. I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it for the best quality of life i can give him and improving the breeds lines. I'm in a pickle

Wichita falls, I've been on him twice, he needs to be broke to ride and be able to show. I think he's meant to be a ranch horse from the way he's built, so someone would need to look at what his true potential is.
