I would up his hay and put him on a ration balancer (Buckeye Gro N Win, TC 30% Supplement, Progressive Grass Diet Balancer, etc.)...with his current diet he is probably deficient in some vits/mins. and limiting amino acids and a LOT of horses will gain weight on less calories when they have all the vits/mins and AA's they need

How much of the Ultium are you planning on feeding?

One of the problems with it is that it is so much higher in calories than your average feed, that many (most) horses can not have the full recommended levels needed for a 'complete' diet. Even at recommended levels, it's not one of the most nutritious feeds on the market.

It's very easy to overlook nutrition for the sake of calories. Which is what it sounds like might be happening here. Looking for a high fat feed shouldn't be the first priority.

Also if he's not getting enough hay, you're just fighting a losing battle.
