Sounds like it's too late as you've already ordered an US unit, but you can rent the GameReady units for $125 per week. And that's for the unit that includes full leg wraps and hock wraps.

You will enjoy the US unit on your shoulder. I shattered my left shoulder in an unfortunate eventing spill and the therapy after my surgeries was excruciating with the exception of the US therapy. THAT I absolutely loved.

I too have enjoyed U.S. treatment, my therapy benefits died at 9 weeks, which is hardly a drop in the bucket for what I had done. This unit will be mine, and I get to use it for as many weeks/months as my horse and I need or get benefit from it. One weeks therapy isn't going to be enough for the horse or me, and the money just isn't there. I've taken in a boarder at this time just to help. This just has been a very bad year and it isn't looking to improve very soon.

I had serious shoulder surgery so will be trying it out on "me" too.
I've seen it used in people and horses, but the results are mixed. It is supposed to break up scar tissue and encourage new tissue to form. I've had it done on me and it feels good, but didn't get rid of the scar tissue so much as stretching and therapy- movement, ice and rest.

I have one myself used it on my radial nerve when I shattered my arm shoulder to elbow had 5 hour surgery blah blah metal plate 15 screws artifical bone it worked well with that then used it on my finger didn't show any signs of helpin it along Dr told me to quit using it didn't help a lick. Used it on a horse to rehab radial nerve damage and broken elbow did help improve. Haven't used it really on anything else horse wise. Good luck!

I never had, but a mare who came to me for training had used it on a severe tendon injury. Her owner could not say enough good things about it, and about how quickly her mare was healing. You can get an Equine Physical Therapist to come in and do PT with your horse in addition to the ultrasound therapy for the max effect. They also rent the device out and teach you how to work with your horse. Another wonderful (and similar system) is the laser therapy. I've had wonderful results with that as well.

Did your vet do the MRI aswell?
My horse had a tear to his impar ligament, and it was diagnosed with an ultra sound just fine.

Anyways, to the OP- I have never used that kind of therapy before, and unless your horse just is not healing, I don't see a reason to spend that kind of money. Only on a very very special occasion would I do something like that.

Ultrasound Therapy is the bomb-it saved my daughters life-I had NO IDEA it could do the things it does.

If you are at all worried about scar tissue, or anything-it certainly will NOT hurt-it helps the healing as well.

I wish you the best of luck.
