Ultrasound

Hi , I bred my maiden mare on March 4th I don't think it was very succesful as it was the stallions first time too, bred them again on the 5th I think that time was very succesful , let her rest on the 6th . Teased again on the 7th, she was still in heat but not a standing heat so didn't breed them.

What is the best time frame to ultrasound? I would like to just wait to see if she comes into heat next month but the twin thing kina scares me.

What do you all do?

Thanks

14 to 16 days post ovulation is the optimum time. We prefer doing an ultrasound before 16 days as the conceptus is still "mobile" in the uterus and if there is indeed twins, it is relatively easy to move one of them around or move them apart for pinching.

By day 14 it is pretty darn easy to find a pregnancy, as well. We routinely do our preg checking at day 12 and if we aren't able to separate twins, it gives us a few days to attempt again.

Hope that helps!
