| Senior Member+ | In Western circles, tying your hat under your chin is the equivalent of wearing your pants tucked in your boots. You don't do it. Better to have a well fitted hat or use add on padding to the brow band to help it stay put.

| Senior Moderator | I have to have a string for cowboy mounted shooting (galloping + cowboy hat = dirty hat on ground). The strings do not "tie" it has a bolo of sorts. For everyday wear or pics, I put the string behind my ears and down my back. |

![]() | Why aren't you suppose to tuck your jeans into boots? I do it everytime I ride. It keeps my jeans from twisting up on me. I could see why you don't do it at a show though. |

| Senior Member | I do have a well fitted hat but the way the wind is here it doesn't care how tight or fitted your hat is it is coming off. But I might just deal with it and keep my face down more then the wind doesn't get under my hat as easily.

| Senior Member | Could you put something inside the hat between the sweatband and the hat to make it fit snugly? Run bobby pins through your hair and into the hat so that they grip the sweatband on either side? Then also have the strings, even if they are mostly for show. LOL at "Why aren't you suppose to tuck your jeans into boots? I do it everytime I ride. It keeps my jeans from twisting up on me. I could see why you don't do it at a show though." Yeah. When you look at all those '30s movie cowboys and the western swing bands of the '30s and '40s, they all have strings on their hats and their straight leg pants are tucked into elaborately decorated boot shafts. Personally, I'd rather dress like that at a show than be all bound up in those contemptible chaps, LOL! Let's all go Retro. |

| Senior Member+ | Wearing your pants in your boots signifies you are city-fied, not country-fied as city slickers want to show off the tooling on their boots, whereas the real deal wears boots for practicality, not show.
