Two Before and After -encouragement for those of you trying-

The first horse I am going to show you is named Dante. He is an off track thoroughbred, who raced for 6 years. He came to us in worst condition than this(couldn't find an earlier picture of him)-

At that time he was on the road to recovery. Dante is still recovering today...but look at the difference.

He is now a happy horse, in a loving home (he is a permanent residence of the farm) with a great life ahead of him. Anyone who thinks that rescueing horses isn't worth the time and money should look again at the first picture, and then at this one-

Now that is a happy horse.

The next horse is actually a pony. I like to call him Little Jack. These pictures were taken only a few weeks after he came, when we discovered he had strangles.

This is Jack now, still dirty, but much healthier and happier.

I hope these encourage everyone out there that it is DEFINETLY worth it to rescue horses. No doubt. With just a little time and effort you could save a life.

-disclaimer-
I am NOT saying that everyone should go out and find a horse to rescue. Some people should stear clear or rescues, and others are ill equipped. But if you think you could, and have been considering it, it is one of the most worth while things you could ever do.

Wow! those are great pics! I'd love to rescue a horse someday. Maybe a PMU foal or something. Thank God there are people like you to look after the horses that need it

I have to put my two cents in here, I have rescued several horses in the past, at present I have two that are rescues. It is very rewarding to bring an animal that was so mistreated, starved, or abused; back to health and happiness, there is no better feeling than that. All mine have come from auctions, been given to me by their owners (who knew that could no longer take care of them), or I bought them to get them out of a bad situation. I am currently in the process of getting my 501 C (3) not-profit status for my rescue, while this is going on I help my local rescues by fostering horses for them. If you are unable to actually buy a horse or save a horse from a bad situation, you can still get that "I have done something feeling", by just helping your local rescue out. You don't even have to give them money, they are more than willing to let people come volunteer at their rescue and they need people to help out, so just because you don't have a place to put a rescue horse, you can still make the difference in a horse's life, just volunteer.

Okay it was four cents worth, LOL.

Rescue horses can be the best of all. It is very much worth the fight and struggle to hear their happy whinnies and see their beautiful faces every day. We own one who was two days from death when we got her vet checked. She has blossomed into a beautiful - and now much fatter mare! My first horse was a slight rescue in her own way. It makes a big difference to these horses when they are saved. I have learned to ignore those who say it isn't ever worth it - because it is. All three of ours are rescues/auction horses and I have no complaints about any of them!
