TWH Celebration

My niece just qualified to show at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in Shelbyville Tennessee!!!!! This is a MAJOR feat considering she just turned 12 last month and the Celebration is "the" show for Tennessee Walkers. Nearly a quarter of a million tickets are sold to fans from more than 40 states!
She is just tickled pink and we are all so proud of her, the whole family is flying out to watch her ride. When her mother showed me the full page ad that was run highlighting her accomplishments and her new mare I all but cried.
I am so proud and just had to share. Everyone please wish her luck!

I now know what it looks like when someone is "glowing" You look at my niece and she is radiant!
She has worked to hard to get where she is, hours of equitation lessons, tears, boogers, and snot but now she says it was all worth it.

That's awesome! Even though I have no interest in twh's, I've always wanted to drive down to Shelbyville during one of their big shows and watch. Might be more to it than I give it credit for.

I'd be proud of her too. That is a major accomplishment for a 12 year old. Tell her we'll all be praying for her.

Too late for reservations. Most of the people I know and places I've stayed are booked from one year to the next. It's a real whin-ding. It's the ultimate in walking horse shows and auctions. The auctions are almost as much fun as the shows. At the auctions you can talk to the owners, ride the horses, be close to everything. I'd never tell them that I an old country boy from Al. I act like I have plenty of money and little since. It's fun watching them promote their horses and encouraging you to take a ride. I wear my worst boots, jeans and old hat. I don't chew, but I put a wad of bubble gum in my mouth and don't let it show. You have to use used gum or they can smell the odor of Double Bubble. It's just a blast.

Her TWH trainer goes every year with various mounts and rents the same house every year so we have a place to stay. We have just been praying that this year my niece qualifies and she did. We paid $600.00 for our box seats just to be able to watch!
We are worried because they estimate each class to run an hour as each of her classes have a minimum of 40 entries. That is a lot to ask of a child, keeping it together that long but we have faith she can do it, her goal is to be World Champion before we load up for home. I am just proud she made it this far!
