The Rider's blankets are pretty much built for TBs/WBs as opposed to QH's or arabs, so it looks like they are good for horses with high withers and big shoulders. I've seen a review from someone who used one on an arab and it was HUGE, so they might very well be a good choice

I'd be a little hesitant to order something a full 3" smaller than his actual size...2" maybe, but 3"...I'm not sure. Are these guys hard on blankets? If not, I can suggest a GOOD inexpensive 180gm blanket that I've had great luck with, but they are only 600D.

I have the RI basic one, the 600D for my OTTB mare. She is similarly built to Mariah, but just 16hh. In the past it has been hard to fit blankets on her, as she has big withers, etc.

IJJ was mentioning the Northwind, which also has a 100gm--a good bet for California, not so helpful for those of us further north.

Blanket info overload! With 5 rescue horses, you learn how to fit ANYTHING--I have everything from a geriatric draft to my OTTB, a QH and two DraftX (QH/Belg) mares.

Ooo okay. I really like how RI has so many fill options as WELL as style options. Most blankets just come in sheet, MW, and HW....I need 100g!

I just got in my $5 fleece sheet from Horseloverz and it's THICK. So I really have no need for a MW blanket now. But those Pessoas are so pretty

Capilet are the RI blankets pretty true to size though? Like does a 78 really measure a 78??

Now I'm thinking I'm going to take my measring tape with me to the Royal again this year ....last year it was to measure blankets for my dog....this year will be for the horse I have in training! hahahaha

Now I'll have to see if I can even GET the RI's in Ontario.......

Shannon, horses are *hard* on blankets, but they are turned out in 15-20acres of field, steep hills & lots of trees. Part of their pasture is FOREST......well that is unless the BO gets his hinney in gear & puts up the new fence posts he's been talking about to keep them *up top* for the winter. Sadly I highly doubt that will happen, as he's busy getting his crops outta the ground before it freezes! So I want at least 1200D FOR SURE! I also REALLY like the 2yr no-rip quarantee the RI's come with.

I'd have to measure it to be sure, but it really seems like a solid 78. Its definitely smaller than the Amigo 78" I have for the older of my DraftX mares. I wouldn't suggest the 600D for your situation, but maybe the Northwind or the 'Full fit'.

Capilet: I was REALLY looking & strongly considering that "Full fit" blanket! It sounds JUST LIKE what Torreau needs! It's the one I found when I did a RI blanket search

Shannon: I honestly couldn't stand to see that each day!! But it would go either 1 of 2 ways. Either the mares would be jealous & butter up to Torreau in that blankey...causing his head to swell even more...........or they would think he looks hiddeous & totally ignore him, which would "knock him down a peg" which would be a good thing for him hahahahaha

Shannon, can you tell me what you didn't like about the McAllister? I'm needing a new heavyweight turnout for Mel and I was looking for reviews on them... You'd say not worth it, even for the low price?
