![]() ![]() ![]() | Would you recommend it for a hard keeper? |

| Senior Member+ | I have seen it work WONDERS for hard keepers and even a couple rescue cases. They simply "bloomed" when they were put on this feed. (When they were first obtained, they were fed a different brand before one of the 'partners' convinced the other to switch to TC, so the transformation in the horse's condition was solely due to being fed better after the rescue, it was due to the specific feed they got after the rescue.)

| Senior Member+ | The only concerns I have about any complete feed is that is is very light nutritionally, meaning you have to feed large amounts of it (often 10-12 lbs/day for a 1000 lb horse in maintenance) to get the nutrition that the bag guarantees. These feeds often say you can decrease the feed amount fed if you are providing hay as well. However, then you get into the problem of every hay is different and YOUR hay might be missing something that the average hay isn't -- so your horse is missing it because your hay doesn't provide it and you are feeding less of the feed product because you feed hay. I much prefer to go with a ration balancer (or something similar) and then add in a fat source like rice bran for a harder keeper...that way I know my horses, no matter how hard or easy keeping, are getting the nutrition they need, and I can tailor the calorie intake to each individual's specific needs.

| Senior Member+ | Yes, just make sure that you are giving them the recommended weight in feed. I also like to add some rice bran and BOSS to my feed (for my thin mare)

| Senior Member+ | I have several horses on it. 1 is a Foster Stallion out of a neglect case. He has gained a considerable amount of weight on it and is maintaining. A 3y/o hard keeper who is doing well also on it. 2y/o hard keeper doing well. 14y/o Stallion doing well on it also. I really like the feed the only down falls I have come to find on it is that it's a total PITA to break up and feed. It's always coming out and chunks. It's extremely inaccurate in weight. Sometimes a scoop is 2lbs other times it's 4lbs. So a scale is a must with EVERY feeding. All of the above horses are consume from 5-8lbs of Complete daily and have access to free choice hay/pasture. The stallions and 2y/o are also supplemented with Rice Bran only 1/2lb. They are actually coming off of it they are doing so well. All are very hard keepers also. I have been very pleased with it.

| Senior Member+ | We feed quite few of our horses TC complete...but I'm also adding TC low starch with it...I also add TC Pelleted Rice Bran and Boss. I have two hard keepers who have gained weight and are maintaining nicely through the winter on this feed plan.
