| Senior Member+ | I like the way Ultium makes him look, I haven't noticed him being more hyper or distracted, but the cost is insane, so I wondered if TC was comparable in nutrition.

It is a different type of feed...Complete is not a grain based feed, Ultium is in a pelleted form...that is just off the top of my head though...I know with Ultium you feed less than a similiar grain product... so the price would equal out.

TC Complete is a much better product than Ultium. Fed at the recommended levels with hay (usually around 68 lbs for the 'average' horse), it provides very respectable levels of nutrition (which is an issue you can run into with 'complete feeds'). As far as how well it will work for a 'hard keeper' depends on why the horse is considered a hard keeper. Is he simply not being fed enough for the type of work he's in? Is he not getting enough nutrition from his current feed? Is he stressed or in less than ideal conditions that is causing digestive upset? Does he not have enough access to high quality hay and/or pasture? So many things can factor into it. |

He is a 7 year old QH gelding....a cribber. He is ridden maybe four to five hours a week currently. I do show him. He is not stressed out at the boarding facility or at shows. Very laid back. He gets quality coastal along with feed. Pound wise in the hay, Im not sure. Its three flakes morning and night. Flakes are good and heavy. Feed his is getting 6 pounds a day of Ultium. The Ultium has done good with his weight, but he has a lot of excess energy, which has caused him to minor injuries in the past week. Other boarders are saying they have never seen him run so much. He is not a hot horse. He is turned out for six hours every day, but of course the pastures are not green in the winter months. Does that give you some idea? He is just a hard keeper that tends to lose weight in the winter, but all year round he is usually thin. | |

Even though he is not presenting 'typical' stress symptoms (which most people are looking for stress symptoms that people would exhibit, not horses, he is presenting at least some equine typical stress symptoms, so you might want to rethink that), his situation is one that is going to lend itself to quite a bit of stress. Limited turnout (6 hours is great, but it's not a lot) High grain diet Young horse In training Showing/changing environments All potential stressors in horses. His stress symptoms are hard keeping, 'wild' energy, and cribbing. I think that the TC Complete would be a good product to try on him. It might work, it might not. I would also put him on some sort of digestive supplement (either an antiacid product and/or a prebiotic (which the Complete does contain prebiotic sources in the formulation, so that will help some)), and get him on more turnout if at all possible. |

Along with an Ulcer med, I would also suggest Ration Plus... it is a prebiotic, but also works wonders on a horse that needs weight. http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.h...2-00b0d0204ae5
