Clippers work the best for trimming. It sounds like you used scizzors? The guard hairs on the face and whiskers can be shaved with a disposable razor. You will really need clippers for ears, bridle path and legs.

clippers are the way to go definetly. For the fetlocks (heels, near the hoof) hold the excess hair out, then clip at the fetlock.
FOr the ears, pinch them closed, the trim the hairs that stick out, and for the nose, just trim off the whiskers.
To trim the chin, for lack of a better term, just run the clippers down the lenght.

well trimming the hoof it depends on how wore down they are put cut them same level with the rest of the hoofs i then wrasp the hoof even and round the outside of the hoof and make sure its dosent have uneven partes then i make someone walk the horse out straight to see if hes walking evenly and a prefure triming 3 days before prefuably when you give him/her a bath then put corn oil on the hoof and when your show comes alond wash the hoof down .and triming ears i never do but i dont show i just do competitive events like barrel racing spped events team penning roping. red_hors

Wait, I'm confused, are we talking trimming as in farrier work, or clipping unwanted hair???

The NaturalWay asked about trimming unwanted hair for showing and general grooming purposes. Playgirlsmarie is talking about farrier work? Apparently, she is a farrier and does her own horses feet. This post was originally about clipping hair not trimming feet.
