So I have a pretty big show coming up...Pinto World! I've been to several World Shows before, so this one isn't my first. However, I'll be riding my new mare who does not like to be "pushed." My problem is that when I get nervous I push more and more, which makes my mare pi.ssy and then I end up messing up our ride. It's hard for me to adjust to her because my 2 horses before that you have to push...so I guess I will have to tell myself not to over and over again, but that is hard to do when your trying to remember all the steps to a pattern or working really hard in a rail class. Anyone have any tricks or suggestions on how to calm yourself before you go into the ring that you want to share so I don't over push her?

One thing I have learned, that if you have a pattern, is to get it memorized and then stand outside the ring and go through it again in your mind. If you go through it before you get on, sometimes that helps me to relax. Remember you are out there to have fun, and to relax. I also try simple meditation for relieving stress. Find a relaxation method that works for you and that you feel comfortable with, and it will help your horse too. |
