Treating Melanomas with cimetidine questions

Tomorrow I have an appointment with the vet to check out Romeo's melanomas. He has had one on his leg since before I bought him. It hasn't changed much in the last 7 years. But in this last year Romeo has been getting several lumps on the topside of his tailbone. One of them has been growing kind of fast and is making me worried, thus the appointment.

So for my real question I was wondering if anyone experience using cimetidine to treat equine melanomas? Has it worked? Any downsides? How often do they need to get it each day?

I know I will get more info from my vet but I'm sitting here worrying about all of this
