Travel Nurse

From the looks of the recent new member posts, I am most likely the oldest.
I am a 51 year old that just got back to riding after a 30+ year hiatus. Had been wanting to ride for several years but never found the opportunity. Took a travel Nursing assignment in Utah and noticed all the horses in the area. Found a couple ads on "Craigslist" offering riding lessons and had my first ride a couple months ago. Since then I placed an ad in a local free classified on-line site and had three people contact me offering to allow me to ride their horses. Have over 30 horses to choose from, but have been riding 4 consistently. Would like to do more but it's been hot here and I don't get started till after 4pm most of the time. Then there is work to contend with.

Getting back on was an experience, the old joints didn't work like I remembered, but once I was on-board it all came back. Feel comfortable in the saddle. Am getting more loose with the additional saddle time, doubt that I will be able to swing up on the saddle like I used to but won't be doing pickup races so why would I need to!

Plan on being in Florida this winter and hopefully find a similar situation there where someone has some horses but no time to ride.

Happy to find the site.

Welcome To HGS. I'm just a year younger than you and there are others. I hope you enjoy your time here and out riding.

Hi! Unfortunately I am older than you! I just got back to riding 2 yrs ago and I was never ever a very good rider. It's been hard. I don't move like I used to, I need a 3 step mounting block to get on, even the ponies! The kids keep telling me that when I ride I need to keep my legs back more, I keep telling them my legs will not go back any more, I'm old, I am not limber, I am lucky I'm on the horse!!!!!

I have fun though. We had a barn show on Sat. and my Delta and I placed first in Pleasure and 2nd in trail and Horsemanship. I only did the show because it was our barn and we're all a bunch of beginners. The trail class was hysterical, the horses all did great in practice and during the show he had to judge who wasn't the worst because they were all horrible because we were horrible!

So far the oldest person riding at the barn is 80+ yrs old and he was not a rider until he was 70. I think that is great. He doesn't look older than 60 and he rides one of the faster horses there. I wish I could be 1/2 as good when I'm his age.

Happy riding and you'll have fun here, I really like it.

Welcome - and BTW - you're definately NOT the oldest! I am 53, and have just completed my first year back in the saddle after not riding for 25 years! Wonderful to be back on board again - isn't it?!?!

Hope you (and I) continue to ride for MANY years to come!

You lot are making me feel young.

Welcome to the forums. You will soon have less time for riding as you will be addicted.
