![]() | Transphyseal briding on yrling for physitis
Looking for anyone who has had this done? And any help I can get on their experience, or any information on the success of this etc. My foal 13 dys old lost his mom in barn fire, was on older mare - foal lac 2 mons old physitits in fetlock oppsite leg, vet & I been checking him all along - boom here it is in opposite leg in knee. My vet says this old of a foal prognosis not great. But I read about Real Quiet, racehorse who survived it so I am hoping. His mom was special, got her age 2 yrs old just after breast cancer chemo etc helped me survive alot. SO if any veterians can offer research, opinions, helpful hints, etc would be appreciated. |

Need to know exactly what the horse is eating. Physitis is generally from an imbalance in nutrition (not just not enough, but an imbalance), and from overall too many calories. How easily can you feel his ribs? What is his turnout like?

![]() | yrling with physitis coming home from transphseal bridging
He was on grass hay and LMF all recommded by Vet after his first physitis was which due to foal lac over feeding when he was orphaned at 13 days old. The first surgery was the stripping at age 2 months, his feed regimen is now all grass hay with LMF again. What I am asking is has anyone had any experience with a yrling with physitis? I am following Colorado State University Vet college recommendations along with my local WA vet. He is coming home today from surgery transphyseal bridging which was essentially screw placed to stop growth in his angular side. SO again has anyone out there had a foal that had surgery before and what was their experience. We essentially will be doing th same regimen as when he had the stripping: stalling, changing bandages, sttrict diet, checking every two weeks to see if there has been any growth to straighten it out....for at least a month to two months. What experiences has anyone had with this surgery? Thanks |
