Transfering Registration papers (APHA) I am so CONFUSED.

Not sure if this is the best place for this, if not feel free to move it.

I am just now finally getting around to transfering Cita's papers and I am SO CONFUSED.

I do not have an APHA membership but I am purchasing one with the transfer so do I still have to pay non-member fees?

If I sign up for a junior membership does is have to be my name and info in the buyers section?

Also I would like to update the picture on her certificate (it's from before she was even a year old,) how much do I have to pay if I send it in with the transfer papers seeing as they have to send me a new certificate anyways? It says " If you would like to have the image on the front of this certificate replaced with a more current picture, please submit... ...A replacement certificate can be purchased for a 20 dollar member/45 dollar non member fee. Seeing as they need to send a new certificate after transfering ownership anyways do I need to pay at all? if so, where the heck do I mark I would like to change photo/what fee do I pay?

You'll pay for your membership and transfer, then $20 for the new certificate. They don't send a new cert when they transfer. They place a sticker on the bottom of the current registration.

Oh okay! There isn't anywhere for me to say i would like to change the picture, so do I add a note saying I'd like that done? It just says to add $20 if you want it done at the bottom of the cert. but there's nothing to check, etc?

Just hand write a note on a sticky. Make sure you put the horses registered name and number on the back

So - are you saying that the transfer form is filled out in somelone else's name? If you are under 18 I would think that an adult sould also have to sign. A call or an e-mail to APHA could give you the answer.

My mom bought the horse, so her name would be on the form however my mom doesn't do anything with her. I'm the one actively showing her, taking care of her, etc, etc. So it makes more sense to me that I get a jr. membership. I'll definately send them an e-mail.

If the transfer form is filled out with your mothers name then the horse will be papered in your Mothers name or as it is on the transfer. If you want it papered in your name then there would be a transfer from your Mother to you. I know of no reason that you cannot show a horse owned by your Mother. You Both would have to have a membership.

Unforunately, if the transfer is filled out in her name, the mare will be under her name and she should be the one to purchase the membership, so as not to have to pay non-membership dues.

Darn! If I'm going to be showing her though I also need to get a membership? It's only going to be one halter class. She's going to kill me, this is going to cost a bajillion dollars.

Do you know the person you bought the mare from? Can you get a new transfer in your name? That would mean only one membership and one transfer...

That is if a horse can be registered on a youth membership! LOL Not being that young I have no idea.
