Training with a Bicycle Chain?

I thought I wanted to become a certified coach. Nearing the end of my program, I went for my lesson a saw my certified coach train a horse with his mouth tied shut with a bicycle chain. I reported her to the Canadian Equestrian Federation & was told "that there was nothing wrong with the training method, if it doesn't draw blood, it is not inhuman". I quit the CEF program feeling ashamed that they felt this way. Any opinions on this?

I would report it again and again until I was heard......I would also be the type to take incospicuous pictures if what I saw disturbed me! YAY zoom lenses! I went through my rider levels (western) and such in NB/NS and dealt....with some great officials and some....others. I am curious about who you spoke to....u can pm me if u like, where in ns are you?

Jesus help us all. If that isn't the stupidest thing I ever did hear! I could bash my horse on the head with a baseball bat and it might not draw blood, but does that doesn't make it NOT inhumane??!!! I don't think so. This person u talked to sounds phony If I were u I'd call again.

That's horrible! I want my horses to respect me, not FEAR me.

Training with a bicycle chain?

I have an opinion on that, but I better not put it in print!

What the heck is wrong with that person? Like, I would never have even thought of doing something so horrible like that. I just couldn't even believe it when I read this post. People can be so stupid!

"I quit the CEF program feeling ashamed that they felt this way."

I would have quit too, don't feel ashamed. Any kind/caring/humane rider would have done the same thing.

There are many hackamores that are STILL made today out of bicycle chains. Have you ever had one wrapped around you? It doesn't pinch nor bite. At least the one's I've seen.

Now I wouldn't use one, but if it isn't hurting them, then no, the associations aren't going to do anything about them. Now if he was BEATING the horse, then yes, they might do something about it.

Though I'm trying to figure out why he didn't just use a caveson instead. Probably would have been ten times easier to put on than a bike chain....

Oh my..... I still don't understand things like this. I'm far from a professinal, but I don't need to use all that stuff, and my horses still turn out fine.... Can't these people accomplish what they want without the use of "devices" like this? I think anyone who actually knows what they are doing, should be able to find more logical solutions..... ugh....
